Customer Profitability Management 

Identify your most unprofitable customers that are robbing the bottom line by at least 10%? As a result, you will know the markers of unprofitable customers, fix them, and avoid them in the future. Conversely, you will also know the markets of the most profitable customers, retain them and get more out of them.

Dan Hill, CMA, CFM, Founder & CEO of Michaelis Costing Systems LLC

Dan has been in the advanced managerial costing and performance management space for over 20 years, acquiring strong technical skills including ABC and RCA costing information systems, and the requisite database and IT interfaces. He is also a certified partner of the MyABCM advanced managerial costing software.

Dan spent his career in banking and was on the team that designed, built and implemented the CLPR customer profitability system at Bank of America in the early 2000’s. Since becoming a consultant, he has implemented over a dozen advanced managerial costing information systems for banks and credit units. It’s a process that can be used with any company.

Dan co-authored the Institute of Management Accountant’s (IMA) Statement of Management Accounting “Customer Profitability Management”, 2011 with Dr Nabil Elias, PhD, UNCC, retired.

Scott Smith, VP & Practice Lead, Herbein HR Consulting

Scott Smith is a seasoned human resource professional with more than 20 years of experience across multiple HR functions. Prior to joining Herbein HR Consulting in 2018, he was Vice President of Human Resources at a private equity-owned manufacturing and distribution company. Scott spent 20 years in executive leadership roles with three manufacturing companies that ranged in size from 250 to 2,000 employees. He has led all aspects of the HR function at each company. As a business leader and advisor, Scott helped the management teams of these companies fuel growth by leveraging strategic clarity, team health, people, processes, and culture. Before transitioning to HR, he spent 12 years in retail operations with P&L accountability.

 

Scott was a member of Vistage International from 2010 to 2018, learning and applying best practices in a wide variety of functional disciplines and businesses. Since 2020, he has been a member of The High Center and a served both as a presenter and a peer group co-facilitator. Scott is also SHRM-SCP certified as a Sr. HR Professional.

Laurel Cline, Division CEO, Herbein HR Consulting

Laurel Cline is a seasoned human resources professional with more than 30 years of experience spanning multiple facets of HR. Prior to joining our team, she served as Director of Human Resources for Morgan Corporation, then North America’s leading manufacturer of small- to mid-size truck bodies. In that position, Laurel was responsible for all aspects of the creation and delivery of HR services (compensation, benefits, training and development, recruitment, employee relations and EEO/AA) for the corporate headquarters and the six regional manufacturing facilities for over 1,200 employees.

 

Laurel also worked for a premier national financial institution in various roles, including Employment Manager, Regional Salary and Benefits Administration Manager, Corporate Compensation Manager and Merger Integration Specialist. In addition to general management and HR knowledge, Laurel’s functional areas of specialization include compensation (executive, incentive, and base pay) HR policies and procedures and HR outsourcing. She works with a diverse client base that spans higher education, manufacturing, financial services and nonprofit organizations.

 

Laurel was named to the 2023 Circle of Excellence as part of the Lehigh Valley Business’ Women of Influence awards for her professional achievements and contributions. She is proud to serve on a local not-for-profit board.

Forensic Accounting – Follow the Money

Forensic accounting is a type of accounting that investigates financial information for potential evidence of crimes. While forensic accountants use accounting, auditing, and investigative skills to understand whether a person or company has committed financial misconduct, the money trail tells the story. Case studies will be reviewed.

David Goss CPA/CFF/CGMA, CIA, CFE, Founder & VP, North-American Forensic Accounting PC

With 50 years of experience, David E. Goss is Founder and current Vice-President of North American Forensic Accounting PC and Prussman-Goss Certified Public Accountants. Although Dave specializes in forensic services including fraud investigations, forensic accounting and litigation support, he also offers traditional tax and accounting services for individuals and businesses.  He has performed fraud and forensic investigations for small, medium and large companies throughout North America, Brazil and Australia. His forensic experience includes cases involving blackmail, embezzlement and elder fraud.

In addition to being a Certified Public Accountant, Dave is certified in Financial Forensics and is a Certified Internal Auditor as well as a Certified Fraud Examiner and a Chartered Global Management Accountant. He has been qualified by the courts as a forensic expert and an expert in Elder Fraud. Dave is a frequent speaker to diverse audiences on a wide range of topics including fraud detection and prevention, exposing fraud and elder fraud.
